Annual tech, music, and culture festival South by Southwest has been canceled with the growing public safety concerns with the spread of the coronavirus.

The news was reported at an City Hall press conference in Austin, Texas.

Austin Mayor Steve Adler stated:

“It’s really unfortunate to be canceling SXSW, it’s tied to who we are in this city, and I look forward to the next iteration of SXSW when it comes.”

There were up to 17 reported cases of coronavirus in the state of Texas.
