In this tutorial, we will be utilizing email management tool Aweber to build our email list directly from our Facebook pages. Utilizing this strategy provides several benefits which I will outline below.
What are the benefits of building an email list?
1.) Your email list enables another channel of communication between you and your supporters
2.) Email is a more intimate means of communication
3.) Over 90% of people have an email address and check for updates at least 2 times per week
4.) If your website is victim of hacking or sabotage, you can notify your supporters immediately
5.) You have the ability to offer additional value in a direct-to-supporter model via email
What advantages will adding email to my Facebook page provide my Personal Brand?
1.) It will increase email subscribers due to primetime placement on the tabs interface of your Page.
2.) The tab is always on and always working for you to collect email subscribers
3.) Provides an additional method to connect with you.
The next step is to install the app onto your Facebook Pan Page.
Select “Add App to Page” as indicated in the screenshot below.
For Aweber newbies, you will first need to set up a trial version at a minimum.
Next, you want to select the Facebook Page to add the Aweber Email Opt-in form to. Using the dropdown list of options, select your desired Facebook Page. If you have one page, the option will default to the Page that you have created.
You will notice an Aweber icon on your tabs on the Facebook page to the right of the “Photos” tab.
Note: If you have multiple tabs as I do, then you will utilize the tab in the screenshot below to expand all tabs to view the Aweber icon.
Next, I recommend that we move the tab into the first 4 tabs on your page so that it is viewable by new users. This will increase email signups simply because it is visible. Select the top left corner of the Aweber tab. Select “Swap Position with” > Likes.
Now, we need to configure the Aweber app to integrate with our Facebook page. This will enable the Aweber email service to serve an opt-in email web form for any user who selects the Aweber icon in the custom tab on our Facebook page. Select the Aweber icon.
I’ve included a video from Aweber on how to complete these steps for additional visual aids in achieving these steps in this tutorial.

Self-publishing to Audible for beginners will be a major content focus on my blog throughout 2014-2015. Audiobooks have increased my reading output by dozens of books since I have opted to listen to audiobooks during my commute.
I’m an audiobook advocate. Audiobooks have provided me the ability to pursue a new approach to consuming book content. I now have the freedom to study books, by reading them 3-4 times, as opposed to simply reading them one time. This allows for greater immersion into the written word, and greater chance that the underlying message will “stick” and perhaps 1 or 2 key themes from the book will become part of my day-to-day lifestyle, personal branding, or business operations.
What is ACX?
ACX is short for the Audiobook Creation Exchange. It is essentially a marketplace and matchmaking system for Authors and Publishers to be matched with audio professionals such as narrators and voiceover talent.
What is the Process for Authors?
1.) Confirm that you are the Author and rights holder of your book published on Amazon.com. This includes e-books published via Kindle Desktop Publishing.
2.) Create a Title Profile via the ACX Author Profile System.
3.) Find a Producer or Opt to Produce the Title yourself
To get things started, you must sign-in or join using your Amazon.com account.
Next we’ll select Select More Titles
Select the book of your choice. If you have published 1 title, that book will be the default option on this page. Select This is My Book
Select This is My Book as indicated in the screenshot below
You will be presented with 3 main options within the ACX platform.
1.) You have published a book and need voiceover talent to narrate your book and produce the finished product
2.) You have a book that have already been produced in audio format and you want to distribute via ACX.com to sell on iTunes, Audible.com, and Amazon.com.
3.) You are taking the steps to narrate your own audiobook and will upload the finished version later. This tutorial is focused on this option.
For this tutorial, I have selected the option to narrate and self-publish my audiobook.
Benefits of Narrating your Book for Self-Publishers
1.) Knowledge of the Subject – This is your book. First-hand knowledge enables you to tell the story in the proper context. You understand the message, its intent, the characters, plot, and subject matter with more authority than anyone else.
2.) More Profit for You – All audiobooks that are produced via the ACX platform, must undergo a royalty sharing agreement with your assigned narrator or you may have to pay an fee upfront to complete the audiobook. 100% of the work in producing equals a greater share of the profits for your audiobook.
3.) Deeper connection with Audience – Your audience will gain a deeper connection with you, the Author. The reason is that they are hearing your voice after they’ve made the investment into your book. There are several case studies of book consumers who appreciate an Author’s written work so much, that they go forth and consume the audio version as a show of support and to have a copy “on-the-go”. I have done this for several of my favorite Authors.
Example of Author who Narrated his Own AudioBook
What are the Recording Guidelines?
Your audiobooks should be recorded .wav format. This should be 16 bit /44.1 kHz file format. This is widely considered “CD quality”. At the completion of your recording, your audio files should be converted into 192 kbps mp3 to upload to ACX.com
Are there any required messages that must be placed in my audiobook?
Yes. Please review the guidelines below:
ACX.com Opening Credits requirements:
Title of Audiobook
Written by (Add Name of Author Here)
Narrated by (Add Name of Narrator Here)
ACX.com Closing Credits requirements:
This has been (Add title of audiobook)
Written by (Add Name of Author Here)
Narrated by (Add Name of Narrator Here)
Copyright (Add year and name of copyright holder)
Production copyright (Add the year it was recorded) by (Your Company Name)
How should final audio files be organized?
1.) Separate your audiobook into separate chapters as mp3 files.
2.) Any Prologues and Epilogues will be separate files.
3.) The final version should be edited as an entire book organized as separate chapters as mp3 files.
4.) Chapter length is allowed a maximum length of 120 minutes.
5.) Chapter length cannot be larger than 170 megabytes.
6.) If it does exceed 170 megabytes, it must be divided into 2 files.
Audiobook Sample Guidelines
The audiobook sample is a short recording excerpt that enables potential listeners to sample your audiobook to determine whether or not to purchase. This will be a separate audio file. This is mandatory to publish your audiobook.
Guidelines are as follows:
1.) Audibook sample must be in between 1 – 5 minutes in length
2.) For best results, choose an interesting passage in your book that will entice potential readers
3.) If you’ve written a romance or erotic title, use a “clean” non-vulgar sample

I recently took part in #Blogchat , which is a weekly series hosted on Twitter for thought leaders in the world of blogging share strategies to connect, improve, and build more effective platform.
There was a ton of great information shared. I wanted to make sure that I captured the essence of #Blogchat through the lens of what inspired me.
Mack’s tweet resonated with me because I am a big advocate of finishing the year strong. Make December your best month of 2013.
Beginner bloggers often miss the boat or undermine the value of analytics. Mack recommends Google Analytics
There are many schools of thought that say shoot for up to 3 posts per week. This strategy may not be practical with a full-time job. It is better to overdeliver on low expectations than to fall short on a goal that you have to build up to.
Nick’s point is valid as body of work is defined as sharing content across multiple social platforms to increase engagement and personal brand equity.
Corey’s point of being yourself is an area that most people don’t fully grasp. Your blog should be a natural extension of your personal touch.
Nuff says. Experience sells and builds amazing connections with your readerbase.
Thanks for the Retweets , Patrick!
Jeff Goins’ You are a Writer So Start Acting Like One was a shot of tough love from an experienced writer. This book has helped me so much.
#Blogchat is extremely informative discussion held on Twitter at 9pm EST.
Gary Vaynerchuk’s new book is good. Really, really good.
As a professional who gained insight from his first two books,
I felt that Jab, Jab, Jab, Right Hook took things a step further by delivering detail for those of us who grew up as Social Media brands with Crush It (book overview) and The Thank You Economy.
I’m a big fan of case studies of social media brands and this book delivers in a major way in that department.
The book features over 80 case studies that deliver a constant reminder that we are still trying to figure things out regarding social media for our personal brands and businesses.
Although I’ve purchased the Kindle version of Jab, Jab, Jab, Right Hook, I’ve recorded a video of me un-boxing the hardcover version that I purchased for 2 reasons
1.) Collector’s item. I’ve always enjoyed hardcover and paperback books as part of the reading experience of an exciting new title.
2.) This book will be the ‘textbook’ for my full breakdown of the book.
Jab, Jab, Jab, Right Hook Unboxing Video.
Jab, Jab, Jab, Right Hook has quickly become a best seller not because of Gary’s infectious personality and inspirational message, it is because the book is his most in-depth work-to-date.
I particularly enjoyed the chapter Round 8: Opportunities in Emerging Networks and Round 2: The Characteristics of Great Content and Compelling Stories
I believe that the lessons presented in the book cannot be digested in one read. It is to be studied, discussed, and applied over time.
To take action, I will be leading an e-course with Jab, Jab, Jab, Right Hook: How to Tell Your Story in a Noisy Social World as the textbook.
Jab, Jab, Jab, Right Hook E-course Orientation
During the e-course, I will analyze each chapter and provide each course attendee with the following:
Jab, Jab, Jab, Right Hook Synopsis
When managers and marketers outline their social media strategies, they plan for the “right hook”—their next sale or campaign that’s going to knock out the competition. Even companies committed to jabbing—patiently engaging with customers to build the relationships crucial to successful social media campaigns—want to land the punch that will take down their opponent or their customer’s resistance in one blow. Right hooks convert traffic to sales and easily show results. Except when they don’t.
