After months of intense buzz and attention, European based streaming music service Spotify has launched. I had the privilege of being a guest on SIRIUS XM’s own Mario Armstrong Show to follow up on the lead that I broke last week about Spotify’s launch as part of my Digital Entertainment Report.
What Interests Me about the US Launch
Spotify has launched a promotion with the standard for measuring online influence Klout and their Perks program.
The Perks program allows online influencers certain gifts and promotion in exchange for sharing the product or service
with their online communities.
The worldwide leader of all things social is working on some integration items with the Spotify service. Having streaming music that users can share with friends within an all-in-one platform with 750 million users gives Facebook a decided edge over Google Plus, which still hasn’t figured out what it will do with Google Music storage service just yet.
Your Turn, Apple
Apple knew that this day was coming for quite some time. Will this push for iCloud to release a suite of services to rival the offering that Spotify offers? Time will tell but all signs point to iCloud making a big push to compete in this area. Spotify is too big of a rival for Apple to ignore. Users love free stuff and Spotify will make streaming music free for all US users within the next 3 weeks after the round of invites is complete.
Thank you to Mario and staff for having me on the show as a guest. Listen to the original report that I delivered on the show here:
What are YOUR thoughts on Spotify? Have you tried it? Have you registered? Drop me a line on Twitter or my new home at Google Plus and let’s get the convo going!
